Snakes and Ladders is one of the most beloved family board games in existence. Originally known as "Moksha Patam" in ancient India, it was designed to teach children about karma, with ladders representing virtuous deeds leading to higher states of being, and snakes representing vices that drag you down. Today, it remains a thrilling race to the finish line enjoyed by millions.
The game creates a unique emotional roller coaster. One moment, you are climbing a massive ladder, soaring past your opponents and feeling invincible. The next, you land on the head of a long snake and slide all the way back to the start. This unpredictability is what makes the game so exciting—no lead is ever safe, and no player is ever truly out of the running until the very last die roll.
Our online version preserves the classic rules. You roll a die (or two) and move your token that many spaces. If you land at the base of a ladder, you climb it to a higher square. If you land on a snake's head, you slide down to its tail. The first player to reach the final square (100) wins.
We have added modern touches to enhance the experience. The board is vibrant and clearly marked. Tokens move automatically to speed up play. You can play against the computer AI or challenge friends in local multiplayer mode. It captures the fun of the physical board game without any of the setup or cleanup.
It is the perfect game for relaxing. Unlike chess or strategy games, Snakes and Ladders requires no deep thinking. It is a game of pure chance, which makes it incredibly fair. A 5-year-old has the exact same chance of winning as a grandmaster. This makes it an excellent choice for parents playing with children.
It also teaches valuable lessons about resilience. Sliding down a snake can be frustrating, but the only option is to roll the dice again and keep moving forward. The joy of hit a ladder on the very next turn is a great metaphor for life's ups and downs.
Fate is waiting. Will you climb the stairway to victory or slide into defeat? There is only one way to find out. Gather your friends or challenge the computer. Click Play now and start your climb!
